2016/03/25 Cocoa - Kennedy Space Center - Orlando (USA)
Today we travelled, starting from Cocoa, to the Kennedy Space Center / Cape Canaveral - the spaceport of the USA.
After a sightseeing tour through the Rocket Garden, followed an Imax movie, a Mars exploration center and the new “Space Shuttle Atlantis”-complex, we started for a special interest tour by bus over the whole area of the Space Center.
Here we were visiting the Vehicle Assembly Building, which is over 160 metres high. Afterwards we visited the starting ramps 39A and 39B of the Apollo and of the Shuttle programs. Additionally, we could see the gigantic Crawler transporters which are capable of carrying the rockets to the starting ramp. We were lucky enough to see one of the transporters moving today.
Finally, the tour led us to the Saturn V building with an original Saturn rocket from the Apollo program inside.
On our way back to the visitor complex there was suddenly heavy rain falling from the skies. Just then one of the rear tires of our bus burst. Although another bus arrived quickly we got soaking wet by changing there.
After we had arrived at our Deloreans at the parking lot,
we drove 90 minutes to Orlando to the Hapimag-Resort where we will stay the next three days. For dinner we had an appointment with the guys from the DeLorean Club of Florida. We also met Delorean-owner Jordan Rubin again. Jordan is an old (Delorean-)friend of us. He used to live in Germany for a long time and moved with his wife and Delo to Orlando a couple of years ago.
Again there was a nice V8-modification to admire.
