Day 187

2016/03/09 Las Vegas (USA)

At 11 am we had an appointment for a tech day with Bob Brandys. He showed us his time machine (the first one built after the Back to the Future movies) which has an Rover V8 engine and also his electric powered Delorean which he has already constructed ten years ago.

Wolfgang, Andre and Klaus were allowed to do a test drive with the EloDelo and they obviously had fun with it. Bob could then test drive one of our World Tour Delos and he was excited with the suspension and the power steering.

Four other Delorean owners from Las Vegas arrived at Bob’s place during the morning and were also curious about our cars and our experiences.

Wolfgang then explained our cars and their modifications in detail for a demo video. To keep us happy Bobs wife created a barbeque with lots of delicious food.

In the late afternoon we started to Las Vegas Strip, where we first took a drink in the bar of the Stratosphere Tower, 900 feet above the ground. There we admired the sunset from the observation platform.

At about 3 pm local time we arrived at the day's destination. At 5.30 pm we had an appointment with Bob Brandys and other Delorean owners from Las Vegas. Bob is a Delorean old hand here in the US and owns various rebuild cars, for example a Delorean with an V8 engine and an electric powered one as well. These cars we are going to see tomorrow.

Navajo Travis, whom we met at the hotel yesterday, accompanied our tour as a guide for today. He grew up in the Monument Valley and knows every place here like the back of his hand.

As we arrived at the visitor centre there were the first astonishing views on this gigantic valley.

Straight through the Monument Valley there is the 25 km long circular Gravel Road which we travelled under Travis guidance - of course with our Deloreans. During our three-hour tour we came across bizarre rock formations and breath-taking views.

Day 184

About 3.5 hours driving to Monument Valley our GPS calculated, so we slowed down and started to the day's stage just about 10 o'clock.

In Flagstaff we made a short stop at Kohl's, there were new shoes for Andre and Wolfgang as well as two new pants for Klaus.

The rest of the route led us through Navajo area with endless wide and bizarre landscapes.

At one of our photo break a car stopped, two Navajo Indians got off and were excited about our Deloreans and our World Tour. One of them introduced himself as 'Mel called Fisher' and gave us spontaneously a Navajo-good luck charm in form of a feather.

About 3 pm we reached our motel and could see the foothills of the Monument Valley.

When we parked our Deloreans at the motel's parking lot after dinner, a pick-up stopped next to us and a Navajo named Travis Cly got off. He told us, that in his early years he played together with his father and his uncle as a bit part at the Indians chase in 'Back to the Future 3', that was shot here in Monument Valley...
