Day 62

05/11/2015 Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) - Singapore

Yesterday we experienced the shortest border crossing of the whole tour. Today though a long chaos at the border. We knew in advance that we firstly need to travel into Singapore without our cars, so we can     negotiate an insurance and apply for the entry documents at the AAS (Automobile Association of Singapore).
We thought that it will be like the following way: exiting Malaysia, letting the Deloreans behind at the border, getting the documents and then finally entry into Singapore.
After three hours of driving we reached the border checkpoint Woodlands between Malaysia and Singapore before midday. The exit of Malaysia was done quickly thanks to friendly officers.

Then we drove to the Singapore immigration. There we got without any requests on the cars the entry stamp and we stood in front of the customs. There the problems began…

Concerning the statement of the customs official we illegally travelled with our Deloreans into Singapore. Unsurprisingly nobody told us that in advance. So we had to go with our cars back to Malaysia and had to do the whole story again from the beginning. This administrative act with about 20 different forms and 40 stamps did take two whole hours, until we were brought with a Malaysian escort party back to the Malaysian side where we entered again. Here we searched for a parking place, grabbed a taxi and entered again from Malaysia into Singapore. There we were driven to the AAS where the generation of insurance and immigration documents for the cars was done in about two hours by the whole bureau and five employees. Everything seemed to be a little absurd.

Eventually we got together all required documents and drove again by taxi with exit Singapore and entry Malaysia back to the border town Johor Bahru to the parking spot of our Deloreans. After that again with our cars - exit Malaysia and entry Singapore, this time with all required documents and confirmations. One hour late we actually were allowed to drive into Singapore with our Deloreans and could finally check into the hotel by about 9 pm.

Our passports are now containing three pages of entry and exit stamps of Malaysia and Singapore.
