04/11/2015 Hat Yai (Thailand) - Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)
After only a 40 minute drive this morning we arrived at the border Thailand to Malaysia.
As fast as here we never came through a border. On the Thai side, with passport control and vehicle carnet stamped we left after just 20 minutes, a new record on our World Tour.
But the entry into Malaysia (passports, carnet and toll card) was totally uncomplicated and completely finished by friendly officials in under an hour. Shortly after we passed the border there was a police checkpoint, where the police officers were more interested in our DeLoreans than in our papers...
On excellently planned highways and great scenery we drove towards Kuala Lumpur. In Malaysia a maximum of 110 km/h (70 mph) is allowed but for us compared to India, Nepal and Thailand a true thrill of speed.
Because of the brief transactions at the border we were very good in time and we were looking forward to an early arrival at the destination for the day. Unfortunately it did not work because after about two hours driving, the Highway E1 was fully blocked at the city of Gopeng. The whole traffic was diverted via a federal highway. This meant for us 12.5 miles and 2.5 hours with stop-and-go because the detour route was jammed also.
Finally back on the highway the remaining 125 miles went on quickly and we reached our destination Nilai (a suburb of Kuala Lumpur) at 7 pm.
