Day 52

10/26/2015 Imphal (India) - Gangaw (Myanmar)

After a short night we started at 5am towards the border India/Myanmar, where we made an appointment between 8pm and 9pm with Win from the travelagency 'Burma Sense'. We expected worst road conditions, but these 62 miles were among the best we experienced of Indian roads.

The region Manipur is a conflict area, therefore every 9-12 miles there was a police checkpoint, where our passports and vehicle data were controlled. There our Deloreans were desired foto motifs.PA260652PA260688

Around half past eight we reached the border, where Win already was waiting for us. The India exit was done quickly, for the entry to Myanmar the agency already had prepared everything.PA260735PA260759

Altogether we have four guides, Win from the agency, travel guide AK, a driver and an officer from the tourism ministry (thats the rule).

Today we covered a distance of approx. 174 miles to the mountain village Gangaw, first over well constructed roads, later over dusty potholed tracks.

Last week the planned route was still not driveable, because four bridges were destroyed by flood. Within the last days two of the bridges were repaired and over two rivers temporary bridges were built, here the passage was adventurous but possible after the recovery of a minibus which was stucked.

Around 7pm we reached our hotel, the Deloreans are covered with a thick layer of dust because of the unsurfaced shoulders and many sites.

At the end of the day the World Tour Team had a tasty Myanmar-beer.

The first impressions of Myanmar: simple, but more colorful and cleaner than India. And of course great landscapes.
