Day 85

11/28/2015 Darwin (Australia)

Today we went fishing with Rod Coverdale (Delorean owner from Darwin). We met at half past eight at the harbor, launched his boat into water and tried our luck with fishing in the sea around the coast.

Our todays result: Not one fish at all, but once stuck on a sandbank and one hour delay on the way back , because the landing stage is not usable during low tide. Anyway - it was a nice day on the sea.

Day 84

11/27/2015 Darwin (Australia)

At yesterday's dinner we met our hotel manager Michael Anthony, whose family is living here for 100 years and he knows probably everyone here in Darwin. He is very interested in our tour and he established contact to his friend Brian Measey, the boss of the biggest local car rental company. Brian imports cars to Australia every week and he has probably the best connections to all authorities.

At a meeting in his office we told him our story and we find out that Brian had crossed Australia with a Trabbi ( short for Trabant – a extinct car brand from former East Germany)

As we talked about the appointment for the quarantine inspection of our Deloreans , he was not able to help. Customs , Insurance , car licensing, all this things he could support, but at the quarantine agency he has no influence. So that means again waiting , waiting, waiting...

At the evening Michelle and Neil , our hotel manager's daughter and son-in-law  invited us for a beer, then the evening got longer and merry, so we got to know Darwin's nightlife…

Day 82

11/25/2015 Darwin (Australia)

Australia without crocodiles is impossible, so we visited today the Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin. Here lives amongst others the 80 years old crocodile 'Burt', well known as movie star from 'Crocodile Dundee'. We experienced his live feeding, visitors were allowed to feed smaller crocodiles with a fishing rod by themselves.

Very daring ones had the chance (of course against cash) to let themselves heave in the crocodile enclosure via cage.

Also the adjacent terrarium with native snakes and lizards was worth seeing.

According to information by our shipping agent meanwhile the customs formalities for our Deloreans are finished, now we're waiting for the appointment of the quarantine investigation.

Day 81

11/24/2015 Darwin (Australia)

In the late morning we visited the 'World War II Oil Storage Tunnels', that were built under ground by the Australian army in the Second World War, after the Japanese destroyed the above ground oil tanks of the Australian by air raid.

Afterwards we went to the Darwin Aviation Heritage Centre, an aviation museum that exceeded our expectations by far. Here stands a big collection of civil and military exhibits, including a huge, original B52 bomber. All exhibits are in an excellent condition and not separated by barriers, so you can get really near to the flying machines.

For this evening Rod Coverdale invited us for a barbeque, but before he showed us proudly his collections of cars. Besides the Delorean he still owns three faithfully Mad Max movie cars, two Corvettes, a Chrysler in family-first ownership, one Holden as well as two also original Ford Falcons. The evening got funny and long, as conversation topic does never go out to car fans...
